Prayer For My Children

(SoulAviv)
December 1, 2009
(J. Green, L. Wasserman, R.Raede)
I remember being six years old, sitting in my chair
Happy it was Friday night
My mother making dinner, Dad would set the silverware
And it made me feel like everything's alright

Then my mother lit the candles put her hands upon my head
And I never will forget the words she said

Yiva rekh ikha Adonai v'yish mi rekha
Ya-eir Adonai pahnahv Eilekha vikhoo nekha
Yisah Adonai pahnahv Eilekha v'yas-eim likha shalom

The seasons turn to years I've got a family of my own
My children are the world to me
The gift of joy they've given is like nothing we have known
The blessings they have brought I can scarce believe

So we light the Shabbos candles put our hands upon their heads
And say the prayer my mother said
Chorus

May the one be good to you, bless and keep you safe
May the one illuminate your way

Chorus
