What happened to American Idol?

Is it just me, or is this the worst Top 24 ever for American Idol? The past two nights have not produced anything I would have expected in the way of 'wow' moments. And what happened to Ellen? She used to be funny, now she's just saying things like, "well, I don't know much about music, but it sounded good to me." Thanks for those piercing insights, E.

Coming around

took a week off the blog due to a cold, but most of all due to a death in our community. Avi Shaffer, son of Rabbi Arthur and Laurie Gross-Shaffer was killed by a drunk driver on Feb 12. There is an 'Avi shaped hole' in our community now, and people are struggling with ways to fill it.

Some are focusing on Avi's dream of peace in the middle east, and helping found and fund a foundation in his name to pursue that. Others are re-thinking their future plans, including more to help Israel.

I'll be a while before we come around to finding some meaning I think.

We Are! and really excited about it. We're looking forward to sharing a stage with our friend Craig Taubman, the fabulous Naomi Less, and Dov Rosenblatt (assuming they can get out here from the East Coast).

We've never been to one of these before, so it'll be a real Limmud (learning) experience, and the schedule sounds great.

Hope to see a lot of you there.
SoulAviv out

Listening to that song this morning, looking out at the rain, and thinking how lucky we are. Things could always be worse, and we could live in lots worse places than Santa Barbara--Haiti, for example.

Spent the morning editing some video from SoulAviv's shows this past weekend, and should have those up soon. Lots of smiles--we sounded pretty good too! Thanks to Melvin Yekeh for doing sound this past weekend, and Jamie Faletti at Instrumental for setting us up with the equipment.

We're also getting revved up for the LA Limmud festival, which should be big fun. Coming up next weekend!

Rob out.

I'm working on our set list for this Saturday's performance in Los Angeles. Now what songs should we choose to reflect a 'super' theme?

I'm pretty sure we don't have any songs about 'beer, pretzels, and M&M's--which are my favorite thing to eat on SBS.

Thoughts?

A wonderful Friday night Shabbat Shira, followed by the concert on Saturday--it was all great and so much fun to be back on home court! Thanks to all the local press for the great articles, and to all the people who came to pray, sing, and celebrate with us--you guys are good dancers!

We got together on Monday night to rehearse, and we were a tired, but happy bunch ;-).

Getting excited for this coming Saturday morning when we'll be sharing the Bima with Craig Taubman for his 'One Shabbat Morning' service at Adat Ari El in North Hollywood, CA.

And we're starting to book a mini-tour of the South at the end of August--very cool!
